SC Justice Puno to induct new PPI board

The Honorable Chief Justice Reynato S. Puno of the Supreme Court of the Philippines has been invited once again to induct the 2008-2009 Board of Trustees of the Philippines Press Institute (PPI) and the members of the Philippine Press Council (PPC) on May 29, 2008 at the Diamond Hotel Philippines in Manila.

The election of the new PPI board is one of the most anticipated programs of the 12th National Press Forum and 2008 Annual Membership Meeting. In the evening, the annual Community Press Awards will honor the best weekly and daily regional newspapers in categories such as best in photojournalism, best in business reporting, best in science and environment reporting, best in editorial page, and best edited paper. The best practices on Civic Journalism will also be cited.

The three-day event will commence on May 27 and will discuss various subjects such as the human security act, the bill on the right to information, the right of reply, transparency and good governance, and the safety of journalists. A seminar on media accountability will also be conducted for the scholastic press associations.

Last year, the PPI Board of Trustees took their oath of office before the Honorable Chief Justice at the Supreme Court.

Alban (trustee for Luzon/Makiling Journal).
